Why buy lawn seed from Turfshop?
Buying lawn seed from Turfshop is easy. We’ll help you select the right mixture, and show you how to make a lawn to be proud of.
The seed you buy on turfshop.co.uk is exactly the same as the seed we use in our turf production. And as leading turf growers we only select the best lawn seed. What’s more, because we use 50 tonnes lawn seed every year, we can buy at very low prices. So you can be sure you’re getting full value for money.
All our seed comes in re-sealable tubs which means you don’t have to use it all at once. Pop the lid back on and you’ll have it ready to use for patching later on.
The benefits of creating your new lawn from seed
Creating a new lawn from seed is much cheaper than using turf. That’s why it’s the best option if you’re on a tight budget. The price for seed ranges from about 40p-80p per m2 compared to £2.50-£4.50 per m2 for turf.
But many people seed their new lawn simply because it gives them a lot of satisfaction. There’s nothing to match the sense of achievement in creating the perfect lawn from seed.
For information about how to seed a lawn read our how to seed a lawn guide.
The downside to seeding
When you seed your new lawn you have to accept that it will take at least six months before you can use it. During this time it’s very important to keep both broad-leaved weeds and grass weeds under control.
One of the benefits of turfing is that the lawn can be used immediately by children and pets without the danger of mud and dirt being brought into the house. With seeding, you should try and keep children and pets off the new lawn until there’s a full cover of grass over the soil.
Although turfing can be carried out at any time of the year, seeding is best done in the spring or autumn.
